All major car rental companies are represented on Kauai. Alamo and Budget have the largest fleets on Kauai and often have the lowest car rental rates, but prices for all the car rental companies fluctuate. Call or visit the websites of each company and don't be afraid to ask for discounts. Sometimes you can get a better deal by calling the local number on Kauai than by dealing with the parent company's reservation system. Members of AAA auto club or even Costco often get better deals.
Don't be fooled if you're told by the main offices that the rental companies close at 9:00 P.M. If your flight is due to arrive on Kauai at 9:30 P.M. all the rental companies will stay open waiting for you. This is just another reason to call the local Lihue number when making your reservation.
Make your car rental reservation early. During busy times and high season, cars can get scarce. Once you find the best deal available, get a confirmation number and write it down. Be sure to have this confirmation number with you when you get off the plane (don't pack it in luggage which might be delayed).
To pick up your car, proceed from the baggage claim area to the car rental booths across the street from the terminal. They will direct or shuttle you from there to where you can pick up your rental car.
